HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

“May the Road Rise to Meet You…”

“May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face

The rains fall soft upon your fields

And until we meet again

May God hold you

In the palm of His hand.”

~Irish Blessing

Family Traditions Make Our Lives Special

This was something my beloved, Irish/Scottish Mother-in-Law always used to say whenever we would leave her house in Maine for our long trip back home to Virginia. She was proud of her Irish heritage and March 17th always felt like a special holiday to her. Rest In Peace Ulele Gwendolyn McCormick Stanford. This post is in honor of her memory because she started this tradition for us and imprinted these words on our hearts. 💚

It’s so special to our family that our oldest daughter and son-in-law incorporated this verse into their marriage ceremony and have a large wooden sign displaying it in their foyer!

Traditional Irish Verses

“The general theme of most Irish blessings is seeing the positive side of a bad situation, or celebrating the best parts of happy one. Today, everyone is aware of the importance of a positive mindset on both our mental and physical health. …Irish blessings were doing this well before their time.”- by Claddaugh Design I think this is appropriate and encouraging, as we head into a new year and Spring is budding and blossoming all around us.

This traditional Irish verse is an ancient Celtic prayer and blessing, passed down from family to family, generation to generation, for many, many years. Celtic literature is known for using images of nature and everyday life to relay how God interacts with His people.

No one knows for sure, but many scholars believe this blessing was written by St. Patrick himself, so I thought it would be fitting to share it with you all today. I wish you lots of luck and many blessings in this upcoming year!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day y’all! 🍀

Truly,

May the blessings of each day be the blessings you need most. ~Irish Blessing
